Firecracker is novel written by comedy writer David Iserson who has written for shows such as FOX’s New Girl and Saturday Night Live. The book was published May 16, 2013.
In the book, Astrid isn’t your average spoiled teenage billionaire; she could care less about the money. Astrid was kicked out of the elite boarding school Bristol Academy for cheating when someone ratted her out. Going to boarding schools her whole life she was shocked when her parents told her she had to go to public school. With the help of some new, strange friends she will figure out who was the snitch and who Astrid Krieger really is.
My expectations for the book were very high because of my enjoyment in Iserson’s work with the television show New Girl and those expectations were reached. Iserson created a spunky, funny, and somewhat tragic story that could be joyful for everyone.
Astrid’s character was written as this smart, rebellious girl who seems as if she knows absolutely everything in the world, she makes people think “Wow, I want to be Astrid Krieger.” She live in a rocket ship in her parent’s estate, how cool is that?
Astrid’s grandfather had to be one of my favorite characters in Firecracker. He wasn’t your normal old and boring elderly. Mr. Krieger taught Astrid everything she knows and the relationship they have with each other is envious.
I enjoyed the whole storyline of the book; it always kept you on your toes. There was action over action. Each exciting part that I read in this book led up to the perfect big finish. I recommend this book to any teen looking to read something tragically funny.
Overall, Iserson did a wonderful job on his first novel and I hope there is more to come.
